fort aguada beach resort, goa

"Situated along Goa’s stunning coastline, this scenic hotel which rises from an old Portuguese fort, is nothing short of breath-taking"

The Fort Aguada Beach Resort in Goa is one of the most well-loved Indian hotels by both domestic and international travellers. Sloping hills, a blue sky, the old walls of the fort, and the vast ocean below make for a truly timeless hospitality experience.

Whilst building the hotel, the biggest challenge was to ensure that the peace of the location was not disturbed. The resort was therefore planned around the existing flora and fauna. Today the structure encapsulates the rustic essence of the locality.

The resort was planned such that the buildings were lower in height than the stately palms that fringed the beach. All the laterite stone excavated from inside the hill went into building the walls of the resort, which gave it a self-effacing identity of its own, making it one with the environment.

The approach road to the resort was designed such that the sea could not be seen till the visitor reached the foyer of the hotel. Upon entering this area, it was planned that the sea would burst into view, stunning the visitor with the unexpected.

Taj Hotels later recorded their appreciation for the structure: “A poem in stone and brick and mortar, rises from the ramparts of an old Portuguese Fort. All the atmosphere of Goa is captured within the walls of this strangely beautiful resort”.

The resort has 120 rooms and 30 rooms in cottages. It is “a tropical paradise, free and relaxed, full of beautiful things, and joyful, beautiful people,” noted an American journalist, who spent days here.
