taj palace hotel

"Building the Taj Palace Hotel to host the Asiad games in 1982, proved to be a race against time"

A convention centre was needed to host international delegations & conferences for the Asiad Games held in 1982. The Taj group of hotels won the bid and our firm was invited to design the hotel – the Taj Palace in Delhi.

The peculiarly uneven site and unpredictable soil conditions made it difficult to complete the project in time. . The Taj Palace was completed just a few days before the games began. The final outcome was a hotel with 500 rooms, vast gardens, a swimming pool, and state of the art conference facilities.

Care was taken to carefully design the lobby on an elevated level, which overlooks vast terrace gardens and swimming pools. It is eight feet higher than the conference rooms, so that guests in the lobby didn’t disturb those conducting business. It frames the beautiful outdoors, perfect for a hotel that was built to usher in one of India’s biggest sporting events.
