Vijaynagar Valley 1000 acres

"A 1000 acre site of land is developed into a thriving township to support the growing population at the JSW Steel Plant at Vijaynagar Valley, Bellary"

Jindal Steel Works (JSW) is one of the leading steel producers in India. With an increase in production capacity there rose an urgent need to expand the setup to accommodate the growing housing requirement for current and future employees. The Vijaynagar valley, by virtue of it’s location, offered tremendous potential to serve as an important gateway to the entire region.

JSW acquired and undertook the preparation of a master plan for 1000 acres of land, at Vijaynagar Valley, in two separate parcels – one 800 acres and the other 200 acres. I.M.Architects together with HOK formulated the master plan based on the vision of creating a self-sustained model city. A comprehensive planning approach was adopted considering the environmental, societal and economic sustainability of the development. The plan was formulated for the region, not only to upgrade its transport infrastructure and streamline connectivity with the rest of the country, but also, to bring order and coherence to existing and future settlements in the region.

The amenities were designed with a focus on cultural sustainability. A conscious effort was taken to create places were people and activities thrive. Diversity of spaces for the different needs of different age groups was provided.

Further, the development was planned to be environmentally sustainable by conserving energy and water, natural plantation and wild life, recycling water as well as waste, employing natural ways of addressing local climate issues and using long lasting, robust materials.
