The Ashok Birla Apollo Hospital

"A nurturing environment with the latest facilities, the Ashok Birla Apollo hospital is an example of progressive design"

The Ashok Birla Apollo hospital, a multi-specialty hospital located in the heart of Thane, is a joint venture between Yash Birla and the Apollo group. This 250 bed hospital was planned to cater to the growing demand for good healthcare facilities in Thane and its suburbs. Inspite of the odd shape of the plot and constraints on the site, the building is effectively designed.

The focus of the building was to create a contemporary hospital which can be adapted to future changes in healthcare solutions. The 2.7 lakh sq. ft hospital is planned on seven floors with a basement including parking facilities for approximately 200 cars.

The location of departments & their inter-connectivity is rigorously planned so as to achieve well defined circulation realms for patients, doctors, visitors & services. This not only optimizes available space but ensures efficiency & sterility. Furthermore, it is the horizontal and vertical synchronization of services that allows for an easy scope for expansion & flexibility in design.

As healthcare designers we believe that light, air and nature can go a long way in accelerating the recovery process. The building is oriented north to allow light from this direction to flood the ward-floors and internal corridors. Every bed, even in the critical-care areas, is aligned by a window so that patients can receive natural sunlight. Strategically placed support areas and easy visual supervision of patients ensures an environment that is sensitively designed to provide utmost nurture & care for the patients.
