As per the Government policy of development of slums in Mumbai, a committee was formed to study the same in the year 1981.

The B.D.D. chawl development was part of the same initiative – The B.D.D. chawls in Worli were in a dilapidated condition and needed urgent attention. MHADA had made a proposal for redevelopment of the same using an FSI of 3.192.

The selected options for the redevelopment scheme proposed by I.M.Kadri Architects was as follows –

  • 8 tenemant units per floor with a carpet area of 225 Sq.ft. for each unit.
  • 10 tenement units per floor with a carpet area of 225 Sq.ft. for each unit.
  • 8 one BHK unit plan per floor with carpet area of 350 Sq.ft. for each unit.
  • 4 two BHK unit plan per floor with carpet area of 669 Sq.ft. for each unit.

In addition to the above work was done on

  • Rehabilitation of schools, police stations etc.
  • Proposed additional amenities such as fruit market, fish market and hawkers
  • Area of free sale in open market (residential & commercial)
