Symbiosis, Pune’s most renowned educational institute, plans to set up a medical college along with a hospital near their campus at Lavale. Situated on the lower slopes of a hill, the proposed medi-city project is planned on a piece of land approximately 40.5 acres.

The hospital comprises of three parts. The super specialty building – a state of the art medical facility, the general hospital block consisting of free beds for the medical college students and a procedure block shared by the super specialty building and the general hospital.

The building is strategically positioned along the slopes to minimize the cut & fill. The super specialty building planned as a robust curve along the contours of the land forms the façade of the project. This block is equipped for the latest in medical technology – robotic OT’S & surgical operations.

The procedure block is planned with all services on one side of the corridor and departments on the other side so as to allow easy access of services without any disturbance. The use of post tensioned slabs allows easy routing of ducts, and a flexible grid is planned to synchronize the structural system at all levels.

The medical college is sited further down in a quieter location. The inward looking college building opens up to the forested slopes of the hill, making it the perfect location for study, discussion & inspiration.
